I first encountered the mystical Rok Straps when I was preparing for a little ride to Croatia in 2015. I wanted a quicker, easier and more reliable way to secure lots of luggage, something better than the age-old bungee cord.
I’d heard of Rok Straps so thought I’d give them a go and bought half a dozen off eBay.
When you’re loading and unloading a scooter every single day for two weeks you need to get your luggage system down to a fine art. Making life easier for yourself takes away a bit of stress and saves lots of time. Bungees are great, don’t get me wrong but they can be awkward to use, aren’t always the right length and under this sort of tension can easily cause a nasty injury.
How to use them
Using a Rok Strap is easy, almost idiot proof. Simply separate the clip, loop one end of the strap around one side of your rack, then loop the other around the other end (make sure you use them the correct way around though or they will loosen once tensioned). Then simply stretch over your luggage, fasten the two halves of the buckle clip together and pull the strap to tension. Job done. There’s none of this trying to overstretch a too short bungee or make a long one shorter. You get the exact amount of tension you need every time.

Rok Straps come in packs of two and are available in three different lengths to suit your requirements 28″ Commuter Straps are £9.99, whilst 42″ Pack Straps and 60″ Motorcycle Straps cost £16.99. They come in various colours. You can buy them from most decent bike shops, or Oxford Products stockists. You can also find them on eBay or on the Oxford Products website.
SLUK verdict
Initially I wasn’t sure whether to trust them or not 100% (hence an abundance of bungees, cargo nets and Velcro straps on the photo above). I needn’t have worried though and now use them for almost all of my luggage and love them (they also fit nicely through the holes in our SLUK Supports).
The ones I use are the 28cm ‘Commuter straps’ and as you can see they can handle a fair amount of luggage. The elasticated strap part measures 28cm, the other side of the strap is adjustable and plenty long enough to cover even the most overloaded scooter.
