Heading back down to my old stomping ground of Kent is never a chore, even Gravesend which is perhaps less salubrious than some other towns in the region.
The event format is great: a small but really well-stocked custom show on Saturday afternoon, an evening piss-up with camping on the Old Gravesendians Rugby Club grounds, and finally a parts fair to amble around while suffering a hideous hang-over.
The custom show stepped up several notches from the previous year with a veritable plethora of classic 80s customs on show: veteran unrestored PX ‘Imperialistic’, freshly revamped cover-star chopper ‘Illusion’ and the first showing of Dizzy’s completely re-done show-stopper ‘Dazzle’ alongside his fantasy-themed Majestic Realms’.
People travelled from all over the country to see Dazzle, not least of all original owner Jeremy Howlett. You can read more about Dazzle’s 3rd incarnation on SLUK this weekend…
The Sentinels W.I. even put on a Tea and Cake stall where the restorative properties of a fine brew and some carrot cake could send you back on your way.
How civilised and how unlike the evening’s inebriations…
