On Thursday the 12th of August the BSSO have organised their first ever ‘scooter only’ track day at the Blyton Park Race Track in Lincolnshire – with open entry to ANY AND ALL SCOOTERS (geared or auto, classic or modern) with riders of any ability.

The event is the brainchild of BSSO Chairman (and Hornet Racing’s main man) Dave Bristow. The Track Day idea was born after Dave got talking to riders at the first BSEC endurance race at Teesside who were keen to hone their “track craft” with possible tuition from experienced BSSO racers. The Blyton Park track is a fast flowing circuit where riders can really stretch the legs of their scooters without the fear of traffic (or the law!) coming the other way. Riders only need to hold a full motorcycle licence and must wear suitable safety clothing (one or two-piece – zip together leathers). Full details and requirements are on the entry form at the BSSO website.

Three groups

The format for the day will see three groups in the morning (Beginners, Intermediate and Experienced) so all abilities will be catered for and novice riders won’t be thrown straight onto the track with BSSO racers coming past at speed. Small group “race tuition” is also available as an option at no extra cost where BSSO racers will shadow riders on the track and offer tips on lines etc. In the afternoon the track will be run as an “open pit lane” where riders can join and leave the track as they please, this will give entrants a great amount of track time for the money.

Spectators welcome

If riding the track isn’t for you but you want to come along and see all the action and walk the pits looking at the scooters when off track, including many of the BSSO and BSEC race scooters, then entry is completely free to spectators. The Blyton Park canteen will also be open for refreshments during the day.

It’s not too late to enter

Track day entry fee per rider is £150 or £125 for BSEC, LCGB and VCB members. The fee is for the rider for the day and allows them to ride any number of different scooters, so if you want to try multiple scooters or swap and share with others then that is OK. Currently, there are 48 riders booked in and there’s space for another 12 so get yourself entered.
