Why: General preening and pork pie hat comparison test
Spring was certainly in the air and the sun had his hat on for what has now become an annual event for scooterists from North Yorkshire, Teesside and beyond. The Helmsley to Scarborough ride out. Only this year the end destination had changed to Whitby after a change in the organisers, with Middlesborough’s Cooper Crew putting in the spade work. The car park Yeti was conspicuous by his absence this year as in previous rides he has insisted on every scooter having a valid parking ticket displayed, despite pointing out that one parking space requires one ticket and after cramming six scooters in he threatened to take down the registration numbers of those without tickets it was with some delight that this year I was able to save 50p by not paying to park. Small victories…
A few minutes later than planned, around 200 scooters pulled out of Helmsley to head over the top of the North Yorkshire moors and on into Whitby to turn the heads of daytrippers out enjoying the early spring sun. A thrash back over the moors home and a couple of pints and I think its safe to say the new scooter season has kicked off for another year of fun and frolics.
