Who: Pooley and Tez, Manchester Nite Owls SC

What: Togetherness

Where: Denton,Manchester

When: 1985 ?

Why: Eve of a scooter rally

This shows me & Pooley doing our best to cobble together a Serveta so we could go to a rally after work on the Friday (Skegness I think). This photo is in Phil’s mam’s garage the night before a rally frantically cobbling a Serveta together with the wrong parts using useless tools with no money. We’d set off after work with a weeks wages each and you could guarantee it would be spent by the Saturday teatime.

Why do it ?

Because we loved it; everyone just wanted a good time with fellow scooterists although Phil was one of too few black scooterists so he did have to deal with the odd meathead now and again. We’d just avoid them, change pubs and move on.
It was all about riding the scooters over ludicrous distances, drinking ourselves stupid and then attempting to get home.

We set off from Girvan to Manchester with less than £10 between us once, won another £10 on the services fruit machine and made it home!
This photo sums all that up for me. Happy Times.
