Piaggio has today disturbed our turkey buffet on Boxing Day by unveiling details for their new 2021 Beverly. Most interestingly for us is the two new HPE – High Performance Engine variants in both 300cc and 400cc. The 300 makes more power than the existing Euro 5 HPE 300 engine – as used in the Vespa GTS. Will we see this motor rolled out to the GTS as well? We’d like to hope so.
According to Piaggio’s press release, the new 300cc version makes an extra 23% in power (the previous Beverly 300 was a claimed 21bhp) increasing horsepower to 25.8 at 8,000 rpm, torque is also up from the old Beverly 300 by 15% to 26 Nm at 6250 rpm.
More power
Replacing the existing 350 engine comes a new quieter, more efficient and more powerful HPE 400 Euro 5 engine. This engine makes 35.4 bhp at 7500 rpm and 37.7 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm.
Handling was always a great feature of the existing Beverly and this one should be even better, the new engines are wrapped by a motorcycle-style double-cradle frame, the scooter has 35mm diameter Showa forks up front, 16″ front and 14″ rear wheels, twin adjustable rear suspension and the 400cc variant gains some fatter rubber with a 120/70 front and 150/70 rear tyre replacing the 300s 110/70 and 140/70.
Sharper
Styling has also been refined on the large-wheeled scooter, which first made its debut 20 years ago and became a best seller in the homeland of Piaggio. The front end is sportier, whilst from the side it looks more aggressive. It may be feminine in name but the Beverly has always packed a decent punch.

Beverly colours
The new Beverly comes in a range of glossy colours, such as Bianco Luna and two brand new colours – Blu Oxigen and Grigio Cloud. These colours are complemented by contrasting components in light metallic shades, light grey alloy wheels and a dark brown set.
Beverly S colours
The sportier S version comes in Argento Cometa, Nero Tempesta matt and the original new Arancio Sunset orange. The S version comes with a new dual material black seat with dark grey wheel rims.
