Will we see our friends on a campsite this summer? Will we see our friends on a campsite this summer?

Welcome to 2021 everybody! I truly hope this year pans out much better than the last one did and we all get to ride our scooters for some much-missed pleasure. For me personally, last year was the least amount I’ve ridden since getting my first scooter on the road back in December 1986.

I think we’ve all taken our freedom and the fun we usually have for granted but the COVID pandemic has shown that it can easily be taken away from us. We’ve had to adapt and live life in a much different way.

Light at the end of the tunnel? Light at the end of the tunnel?

One down, 65 million to go…

There is at least a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel now – even if that light is being produced by a Lambretta on 6v points ignition, rather than a modern, high-powered LED.

We currently have two vaccines being rolled out in the UK, with over one million people already having had the first of their two doses. There are ‘only’ another 65 million people to go… times two for the full protection. Sadly, this isn’t going to be a straightforward or quick fix and there may well be bumps in the road but we’ll get there. Hopefully, once the most vulnerable in society are protected, restrictions will slowly begin to relax and we’ll be able to enjoy some of our precious rallies and events. Even if they are a bit different to what we had before this dreaded curse.

BSRA National Rallies

As usual, we’ll keep you up to date with what’s happening event wise over the course of the year. The BSRA still have a full season of National Rallies planned, with Cleethorpes making a welcome return and Aberystwyth back after a gap of over 30 years! Venues are booked and the only thing the organisers can do is follow the latest advice as time moves on.

Euro Lambretta & BREXIT

We also have the Euro Lambretta Jamboree due to be held at Fort William in Scotland in June. Many of our overseas readers will be hoping to make a special trip to beautiful Scotland for that one. We’ll keep you up to date about that too and in an article coming later this week, we’ll be looking at the changes BREXIT has made to both European riding and for overseas riders coming here.

Let SLUK keep you up to date

As usual, SLUK will keep you all up to date with the latest news, new products, tuning, developments, new models and scooter info. All we can do is soldier on and make sure our scooters are ready to roll as soon as we’re allowed out to play again.
