AF have just informed us that they’ve just received another 100 of the kits direct from Uni. If you missed out last week or are on the back order list you should be able to snap one up if you give them a ring today. Don’t forget to tell them we sent you!
UK UNI distributor, AF Rayspeed have just received the first 50 sets of the new UNI Multi Clutch. Demand is likely to be high and they’re limiting them to one per customer until the main order arrives in 8 weeks. Get on the phone if you want one now!
Have a look at the AF Rayspeed video above, it shows the difference in lever weight from the hardest to the softest setting – between 5.5 and 9 lbs.
So what is it?
It’s an adjustable 4-position clutch arm that works using an internal rack and pinnion system. The clutch arm also has 4-positions for the clutch cable to sit in which allows the rider to customise the ‘feel’ at the lever end to suit themselves. It’s designed to be used with performance type clutches, rather than standard. Often the clutch can be quite heavy on tuned motors and with many Lambretta riders knocking on a bit a lighter clutch can make riding more pleasurable.
What do you need?
To use the Multi Clutch you’ll need a GP crankcase side and a modern performance clutch (it won’t work with a standard Lambretta clutch) and for the best results you’ll also need a new clutch cable. Make sure your clutch lever pivot is in good condition, as well as checking the gear housing for wear. Replace if worn.
The special phosphor bronze bush case houses a steel pressure bush rack and works with the new clutch shaft, whilst the 4-position clutch arm can be easily adjusted using a 19mm spanner.
The kit includes
4 Position Clutch arm
Clutch shaft
Cog
Phosphor Bronze Pressure bush case
Steel Pressure bush rack
Clutch arm return spring
10mm external circlip
12mm external Circlip
2 Clutch shaft shims
Clutch shaft O ring
Clutch shaft E Clip
8mm Cable Trunnion
Price and availability
The multi Clutch comes as a complete kit complete with detailed instructions and images. It costs just £39.95 and is available now from AF Rayspeed: Tel 01944 710693 and tell them SLUK sent you.
That’s an excellent priced item
Why won’t it work with a std clutch?
The standard clutch needs the full amount of travel Innocenti designed for, to operate cleanly. If you reduce the distance that the clutch is compressed it cannot be adjusted out of either slip or drag. The multi clutch works by allowing you to change the leverage you have, so you reduce the distance you compress the clutch.
All the performance clutches we tested, (AF 6 Plate Surflex & road, Python 8 Plate, Readspeed, LTH, BGM and Casa) were able to operate in less than 2mm. Some with as little as 0.75mm. This allows you to reduce the distance you compress the clutch (making your lever pull lighter) and still have a functioning clutch.
Some standard clutches that are manufactured slightly better than others, and with good condition controls and cables may be able to use the heavier settings on the multi clutch, but as many will not I would not recommend purchasing one to use with a standard clutch.
I hope that is of help.
n.b. Sorry but the first 50 kits have already sold. I hope to receive a much larger quantity in 8 weeks time.
Hi Ben, do you know if this works on the Surflex 5 plate type clutches, with improved springs, that are used as an upgrade to standard 4 plate ? Thanks
Hi Ben, do you know if this work with the many 5 plate / uprated spring type clutches ? Thanks
