Here’s a clever idea that originated from the bodyshop of London Vespa dealer, R Agius Ltd.
R Agius Ltd are the country’s longest established Vespa dealer, first opening their doors near Paddington Green to scooterists back in 1953. As well as selling the scooters they also repair them, with owner Claude Agius’ son David running the family firm’s paint shop and it was there that the idea for these keyguards was conceived.
As any Vespa P-range owner will know (as well as those with an LML Star too), if you’ve more than one key hanging from the ignition, or the keyring itself is a bulky one, then it’s likely that it will be dangling onto the top of your scooter’s legshield toolbox. As the miles increase, so will the scratching of the toolbox, so R Agius have come up with this simple yet stylish solution.
R Agius have produced a shaped gel/resin-type stick-on protection pad that you simply apply to the toolbox top and hey presto, the metal bodywork is protected.
The key guards come in a number of colour options including plain black, white or clear, all offering a smart alternative to a scratched toolbox top. Simply clean the toolbox, peel off the protective backing paper and apply like a sticker, making sure to press out any air bubbles as you go.
The anti-scratch keyguard is waterproof too; we’ve had one fitted for well over a year now on a Vespa that’s been parked outside in all weathers, day and night, and it still looks good.
Suitable for 125, 150 and 200cc models that feature an ignition key as part of their steering lock, these keyguards are available directly from R Agius in London (0207 723 0995) or search for ‘Vespa anti scratch glovebox key guard’ on eBay, priced at £7.99 plus p&p.
Or you could just use a sticker costing £0 instead £8…
We have some nice stickers that would do that job as well. The keys will wear the print off but you could always stick another one over the top I suppose 🙂
