After a long wait, originally planned for 2020, the Scunthorpe Silhouettes finally got the TTM2 weekender and their 35th-anniversary celebrations underway. Sunny Scunny lived up to its name all weekend as the scooters and riders arrived as early as Thursday night – before we’d even finished the site. This influx continued throughout the weekend.

As a club, we make a conscious effort to supply a chilled weekend to all and for a non-seaside town centre rally the venue hits all the right spots. Music is always mixed, eclectic, basically play what you want. Guest and club DJs manned the decks practically all weekend due to the crowds, keeping both the function room and main marquee buzzing.

Carl Morris (making a bit of a name for himself) played live on the Friday and then kindly did a warm-up set on the Sat afternoon. He was followed by some proper old-school punk noise from 76 Calling, smooth soul from the mighty Odels, Madchester memories from The Ultimate Stone Roses and the ultimate party band Soul Intention brought the house down. That was before the silent disco, which probably wasn’t as silent as hoped for due mainly to the ale and shots abuse, that ended the night’s outside entertainment. Meanwhile upstairs in the function room, the soul night was packed to the rafters.
Custom highlights

The highlight of both the TTM Weekenders (TTM1 was in 2012) has been our custom shows held in conjunction with DDK and DTC, both Dave Dickinson & Macca brought stunning displays, DDK showcasing plenty of the custom scenes big hitters from down the years, while plenty of individual entries and some new reveals made it an utterly stunning show. Arguably the best lineup of custom scooters seen in one tent for ages, so much so that the judges spent three hours trying to pick winners. You can see plenty of photos from the rally and custom show, plus the results in gallery above. Whether they won a trophy or not is irrelevant as the standard was so high every scooter in the tent was a winner.

Darrell Taylor and the fastest man on a shopping trolley, Eric Cope ran a North v South Dyno Shootout throughout Saturday. While this was born out of friendly banter on the LSR site & the Straightliners sprint scene it also had a solemn purpose as the winner received the inaugural Tik Tester trophy in memory of a fellow scooterist whose tragic loss shocked everyone. The eventual winner was Silhouette chairman Dale Winney on his Casa-powered S2 with 47bhp but in a bittersweet moment, he ceded the trophy to Martin Murray to take it back down South (for a year at least) in memory and honour of Tik.

Scunthorpe has always been a big scooter town and now after the second TTM Weekender, it’s fast developing into a top-quality rally town too. If you haven’t been yet all I can say is you’ve missed two absolute bangers so keep your ears to the ground for rumblings of TTM3…
