What the SLUK are you after?
  • Our aim is to encourage the SLUK community to start making entertaining and informative videos that we can share with other scooterists.
  • We want to see exciting riding footage in spectacular locations.
  • Make a video to promote your event. Show how much fun the last one was!
  • If you can make a truly funny video involving scooters and scooterists then you’ll stand a good chance.
  • Make a video to show off your custom scooter or technical tips.
  • You can repackage an old video to suit the competition but we prefer original, unseen footage.
How do I do it?
  • It’s possible to make an entertaining short video with a good quality mobile phone. It just takes a little thought.
  • You can edit your clips in free software packages such as Windows Movie Maker, iMovie or even via mobile apps.
  • Paid editing programs like Wondershare Filmora or Cyberlink Powerdirector offer more versatility but content is more important than editing.
Issues with music

Use of copyright music on your videos can cause problems. When you upload to YouTube the service automatically scans your video for known tracks.

 

  • If YouTube detects a copyright track it may block playing of your video on certain devices and in certain countries. If this happens then it is best to replace the soundtrack with something else. We need competition entries to play on every device.
  • YouTube provides a link to free and ad-supported music here.
  • If the copyright owner has licensed the track for use on YouTube then they can monetise your video by running ads on it in desktop format.
  • If you don’t want ads to run on the video then it is best to either use original music with permission (maybe a local band), or to hunt out music with a Creative Commons licence. This allows you non-commercial use of a track as long as you credit the artist in the video notes.
Small print
  • The competition is only open to SLUK subscribers entering their own video on their own YouTube or Vimeo channel.
  • Only videos with the SLUK competition frame showing for 2 seconds at the start of the clip will be eligible for entry.
  • The judging panel will choose the winning entry each month and announce the winner on SLUK.
  • SLUK will pay for postage of prizes to winners who live in the United Kingdom. Anyone entering the competition from outside the UK with either be required to supply a UK postal address or to pay for shipping of their prize.
  • If you aren’t happy with those terms, don’t enter the competition!
