This weekend sees a National Scooter Rally at what is essentially a brand new rally town! All roads lead to Weymouth and I for one have been looking forward to this one for a while.
In fact, as soon as I press the ‘publish’ button on this post I’ll be jumping on my Lambretta riding down from the midlands, let us know if you’re going and where you’re coming from in the comments below.
The Dorset resort of Weymouth was last used way back in 1983 so if you’ve been looking for a new and exciting town to visit now is your chance! There isn’t an overabundance of B&B accommodation in the town and until now there hasn’t been a suitable campsite willing to take us, so Weymouth has been left on the back burner for almost 40 years!
As luck would have it we’re currently experiencing a heatwave which makes it the perfect time to make a last-minute decision to pack up a tent and head to Dorset. Let’s help to make this new rally one to remember for all the right reasons.

Campsite
SWSC have secured a great campsite at the Rugby Club, with full amenities including a bar and disco. The site will also host the trade and custom show on Saturday so it really will be the hub of the rally.
South West Scooter Clubs have been trying to get this rally off the ground for a while and after lots of hard work behind the scenes, they’ve finally managed it. One of the organisers, Andy had this to say about the weekend and asks you to pay particular attention if you’re camping…
“We have been trying to get Weymouth as a rally for over a decade or so and have just managed to get everything in place. The venues are great and varied and the campsite is spot on but now it’s up to you. Please support the dos and be aware that if we want to do Weymouth as a rally again in the future we need the campsite and it is in a fairly residential area so please take it easy riding down the avenue that leads to the rugby club and no starting scoots in the early hours or playing loud music after the rugby club closes at 2 am. There will always be the local resident who loves it and comes for a look around, as there will always be the one who complains about everything so let’s not give anyone actual grounds to try and appeal against a future licencing request for a rally. Like I said it’s up to you”.

101 cans of pissy supermarket 3% Viking Beer (ha!), a bottle of whisky, 50 toilet rolls and several baseball bats.
Johns in Ford Capri with obligatory furry dice trying to knock the lads of the scoots pelted with full cans of pissy beer and clobbered with emerging bats from van’s sliding side door. A bit like Jones the Butcher’s van in Dads Army. Up 2-3 , out 2-3, fire 2-3!
20 scooterists filling up on full English breakfasts from a cafe and doing a runner leaving three lads to foot the bill, being apprehended by plod.
Wrapping people in miles of toilet paper and setting them alight for the fun of it.
Steve Dunn locking his mates out of his motor (their bedroom for the night) as he went off with a girlie…cries of “Steeeeven, where are youuuuuu? Steeeeven, we are going to kill youuuuu!” Filled the damp cold night air.
For me, the best memory, a very pretty girl wearing a raspberry beret just walking right up to me out of the blue and planting a lovely, full kiss on my smackers. A case of mistaken identity apparently.
We made our own entertainment back then. No smart phones. A different world.
