Suzuki have unveiled a new Burgman Street 125EX alongside two other new scooters at Intermot in Cologne, Germany.
The trio of learner legal scooters all use the same proven air-cooled Eco Performance (SEP) engine which is capable of 148.67mpg. The Burgman benefits from extra features though including Engine Auto Stop-Start (EASS) and Suzuki’s new silent start system.
The Burgman is built for rider comfort with a well padded seat, large well-proportioned footboards, which also allow a ‘feet forward’ riding position if you prefer. There’s 21.5-litres of space beneath the seat (the Avensis also has this) and a closable front compartment with USB point, plus two carrying hooks. There’s also a neat LCD dash with indicator lights for the EASS and Eco setting.
The longer wheelbase is said to give “Impeccable great straight line stability” whilst the firmer front suspension and finely tuned rear suspension and optimised wheel weight distribution is said to achieve a fine level of balance, stability and road holding as well as giving agile handling and a comfortable ride. The Burgman comes with combined braking and a larger 140mm rear drum.
Avensis 125
The Avensis 125 is built for sporty city fun with sharper lines and aggressive looks. Distinctive graphics, a stacked headlight and upswept rear panels add to the stance. The scooter also boasts a sporty two-tone seat with contrasting red stitching. More importantly for shorter riders its tapered design makes it easier to get your feet flat to the floor, as do the cutaway floorboards.
The Avensis also gets a compact LCD dash with a handy eco indicator light to highlight fuel efficient riding. All three models feature a shutter to conceal the ignition switch which can be opened and closed using a magnetic mechanism coded to the owner’s key. For additional security it’s also possible to lock the rear brake via a switch on the left lever.
Address 125
The Address is inspired by traditional scooter design with curvy bodywork and chrome detailing. The classic styling is carried through to the retro analogue clocks, which also feature an eco riding indicator. The engine comes with Suzuki’s new Easy Start System and makes 8.5bhp at 6,750rpm and 10Nm of torque at 5,500rpm.
There’s 21.8 litres of storage space beneath the seat, plus an upfront storage pocket and a USB point. Dual utility hooks are also provided to help with carrying bags. Weighing in at just 105kg the Address will be easy to handle, that low weight is achieved by using an underbone frame built with large-diameter thin round tubes. The frame is designed to provide excellent rigidity to enhance straight line and cornering abilities.
Stopping power is provided by a 190mm front disc and 120mm rear drum with a combined braking system to distribute force to both front and rear wheels when the rear brake lever is used.
