It’s showtime! The prestigious EICMA Show opened to the press in Milan on Monday and it’s the place where we’ll see all the new models for 2018, before they arrive for Motorcycle Live at the NEC later this month. We’ll be updating this post as the action happens so keep checking back….
The first scooter news to reach us came from the mighty honda who have updated their scooter crossover model, the X-ADV for 2018.
The X-ADV will come in two versions, full power (40.3kw) and an A2 licence version (35kw). It’ll have Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), it’s a 2-level system, level 1 allows a bit of wheel spin (for off-road use) and level 2 will keep things nice and controllable on the road. It’s switchable and can be turned off by a control on the handlebars. The Euro 4 machine has a claimed range of 186 miles from the 13.1 litre tank and can achieve 77.7mpg.

The X-ADV is fitted with the excellent Honda DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission), which offers two automatic modes, MT manual change and standard auto D mode, which selelcts lower ratios for the road. S mode gives a sportier ride with three levels of performance.
The G Switch
Pushing the G Switch is a feature already utilised by the Africa Twin, now available on the X-ADV it offers improved traction and machine control by reducing clutch slip during gear changes.

Kymco C Concept – 2 or 3 wheels?
The Kymco C Concept was unveiled today and is the Taiwanese firm’s first foray into the world of three wheels, the concept includes two models, CV2 and CV3 (the 3 standing for 3 wheels). It will be powered by a higher capacity engine than the existing AK550 and the modular design will allow the scooter to accommodate various removable accessories. The three wheeled version will allow car, or full licence bike riders to jump on board.
Mr Allen Ko, Chairman of the Kymco group said “The C Series is introduced with the “KYMCO Multi-Fit” concept to expand the versatility to cover any trip of riding alone or with a passenger. The rear case, side cases, top case, rear seat and hard top are all attachable upon demand; there is even a child footrest. All of these accessories are designed to satisfy the needs of riders for different purposes. It allows you to pursue the spirit of “Discover New Journey of Life”, whether riding in beautiful conditions or in bad weathers.”
Kymco Xciting S 400
Also new from Kymco is the Xciting S 400, a great looking scooter with 35.53bhp on tap. The S 400 will arrive with Kymco’s long-awaited Noodoe Navigation system, “Noodoe Navigation is the world first rider centric navigation system designed with the utmost attention to the safe driving of riders.” The S also features the first ECE approved scooter daytime running lights, said to increase visibility.
BMW C 400 X
BMW have unveiled their new mid-capacity C 400 X scooter this morning. The new model will sit alongside their existing C 600 Sport and C 650 GT models. The 34bhp engine will provide plenty of power for the morning commute or weekend fun. It also comes with ASC – Automatic Stability Control for increased safety.
Styling is very BMWesque, with a short snout and aggressive profile it’ll be instantly recognisable.
Niu electric
Alternative enery sources are obviously a big part of any motor show these days, Niu are a Chinese brand. This model boasts a claimed top speed of 120km and a range of 170km from its dual lithium batteries. A smaller battery comes into use for the final 30km of charge and can be recharged quickly to help get you home. The Niu also has full connectivity to your mobile phone.
