Who will be chasing the coveted #1 plate this season?
Who will be chasing the coveted #1 plate this season?

The British Scooter Sport Organisation (BSSO) season gets underway at Croft on April 2nd-3rd. But for many the pre-season test day at Mallory Park is where riders get the chance to blow away the cobwebs and check their bikes are ready for the season ahead. For some that testing involved a complete new scooter, built from scratch over winter, whilst for others they literally rolled their scooter out of the shed, complete with last years fuel and the overheated tyres from the final race at Cadwell in 2015. That’s the beauty of scooter sport, it can be as professional or as bodge it and dodge it as you like. Affordable racing or a full on MotoGP style team event.

Whichever way you go, it’s a great sport to participate in, or watch from the side of a track. This year looks set to be even more impressive thanks to the new LCGB Production Class bringing in new, or returning riders and the Italian Casa Lambretta Racing Team coming over to prove the Italians aren’t finished with Lambretta development just yet. The Brits will be gunning for them though; so we’re likely to see a few Anglo-Italian fireworks this year.

SLUK riders

We’ll be following the 2016 season and bringing you reports from every meeting. We’ll also have our own SLUK riders out on track. Barrie Braithwaite is currently living on a diet of dust in a desperate attempt to shrink into his new RST leathers before the first meeting. Barrie will be bringing you nutritional tips in his ‘The gimps guide to shrinking a suit size in 30-days’ series. Kirk St Moritz is entering Street Class and providing a complete novice’s view of taking to the track in Street Class.

Spectator numbers at race meetings have risen massively of late from the road-going scooterist fraternity, so if you’re at a loose end and fancy a ride out check out the BSSO website for the full calendar: BSSO
