Pinasco new oilseal solution for Vespa

Pinasco are celebrating a big anniversary with some important news, most importantly for me is a solution to the traditional problem of the Vespa largeframe drive-side oilseal. It has forever been a pain in the arse. In high power engines the thin, push-in seals tend to fail, crack or fall out. If you are unlucky the parts can travel and destroy your whole engine.

Pinasco’s innovation has been to redesign their Vespa engine casings with a flange near the crankshaft so that a special flanged seal is inserted from the outside, followed by the main bearing and then the bearing is fastened in place by three flat plates and tab washers.

The oilseals are specially made to be resistant to modern ethanol fuel and the system has been tested in both racing and on the road.

New Lambretta ignition

Also new for 2020 is a new Pinasco Flytech ignition for Lambretta. It has a one-piece flywheel with a plastic fan and a 4-pole stator producing a claimed output of 95Watts. It looks very much like the stator used on the Varitronic and old Casatronic so don’t expect lots of lighting power at low revs.

The CDI also has a pre-set map retarding the ignition over a range of 8-degrees. The CDI features a spark voltage boosting circuit.

The display flywheels had yet to be fitted with weight rings but the expected mass is around 2kg.

Price is expected to be the same as the Flytech ignitions for Vespa.

New Lambretta Tubeless Rims

After many years of teasing, Pinasco have finally released a tubeless wheel rim for Lambretta, but unlike those alloy ones that need to have the tyres levered on and off, this is a split rim sealed with an O-ring so mounting and dismounting should be much easier.

The estimated released date is spring 2020 with a single wheel priced around €100.
