“Proper Planning, Prevents P*** Poor Performance”
After last year’s ride around the South Downs, courtesy of the Solent Cougars Scooter Club, we were looking forward to a re-match. We certainly weren’t disappointed. A tidy 180 miles to the venue near Southampton on Friday to pick up our goody bags, along with the route plan for the next day. This was followed by a pleasant evening over a few pints, catching up with scooter riders from far and away.

When Saturday dawns bright and sunny we take some time to check our map against the route and plan our way around the Southern Shires. With quaint and quintessentially English villages like Wherwell and Pewsey (another scooter rally venue) and stunning vistas over the Vale of the White Horse, the twisty roads chosen by the Solent Cougars SC were perfect for the best mode of transport.

Green Dragon
The mid-way stop was at the Green Dragon pub in Market Lavington. The parking could just about accommodate all the scooters and their riders and the pub folks had a nice soup and cheese welcome for us. Refreshments imbibed and we were back on the road for the next 90-ish miles back to Eastleigh. Only stopping to check out the Fovant Badges and a quick refuel and chat with a vintage Morini rider and we were back at the venue to check in at the Lambretta Club of GB stall with the other 140 riders.

Planning with mates and the Awards
Saturday night was the usual affair, comparing notes and talking plans for the summer rallies with like-minded chums. The music was only interrupted to present trophies to London Lambretta Club for Best Turned Out Club and a big up to the Ulster Lambretta Club, deservedly winning Furthest Travelled Club and Andy Hamilton from Stockton-on-Tees who took the Furthest Travelled solo trophy home with him.
