It’s the end of February 2019 and we’re seeing record temperatures waiy daarn saarf (Google Translate: way down south) and I’m looking forward to the short hop to Sandford for the Dorset Modrapheniacs rally. With only a week to go, it’s looking like it’s going to be a glorious ride up…
Sadly the weather disagreed. March arrives and it’s back to winter, although not nearly as bad as last year – the rally was cancelled due to the Beast from the East – but it was still cold and grey.
The morning of the rally arrives and we meet at our normal cafe for breakfast, mostly dressed as snowmen! The ride up is dry but cold and apart from a snowman losing his hat, is uneventful and we arrive at Sandford a couple of hours later.

We buy our wristbands, book in (the rally is on a caravan park) and catch up with people we haven’t seen since last year then head to our caravans. Fast forward a few hours and we head to the bar…
Or rather bars, Sandford has three, one by the main hall, one by the Northern Soul dance floor and one, always popular, upstairs overlooking the main hall, though tonight we spent most of the evening by the Northern Soul bar.
Friday night’s band was The Butterfly Collective, from Southampton, they play, as their name suggests mostly mod and soul covers with some original songs too. Always good to watch, they get the dance floor moving. After watching The Butterfly Collective, it’s back to the bar, then off to bed.

Saturday arrives with a bump and we all head to the local cafe which we’d discovered the day before for a great breakfast and start to the day.
After a wander around the parts fair, then the outdoor custom show which is now bathed in sunshine, we catch up with more old friends and check out Jolliff (many of you will recognise his puzzle patterned Serveta from the rallies) who has his mobile dyno set up for power runs (I think the highest was 28bhp), with donations going to charity.
By lunchtime, the weather is starting to turn cold and grey but we decide to head out on the rideout. It leaves at 1 pm, heading out through the picturesque Dorset countryside to Swanage, passing through Wareham and past Corfe Castle. Fortunately, although it’s cold the rain holds off, though we bid a hasty retreat from Swanage as we don’t want to push our luck.
Back at Sandford we hide away in the caravan for a few hours as Storm Freya comes to say hello.

Back to the bar then we catch the band, Marquis Drive, a Britpop and Indie covers band, I’ve seen them before and have to say they’re great fun to watch
Sunday morning is home time and those that know me, know I normally have some sort of drama (normally involving the RAC), this time I decided to lose all my camera equipment on the way home! Fortunately (actually miraculously) Tania and the girls found it sitting on the grass verge where someone had kindly stopped and moved it from the middle of the road where it had fallen off my scoot!
