Who needs the AA?

Why: Bit of an oops but it’ll take more than that to ruin our holiday!
“Well, looks like the engine’s knackered” said Bos pulling a large chunk of oil seal out of the crank. “No point in calling the recovery service as they’ll only take us to a garage and they won’t be able to do anything with this”.
You may be forgiven for thinking ‘Why doesn’t he just get relayed home?’ and ordinarily this would have been the case, however, this breakdown happened in Uberlingen, Germany on day three of our holiday to Austria. We were 100 miles from our hotel, but had no luck finding a local scooter dealer or a hire van so we phoned our hotel run by scooterists Hedi and Jörg of the Munich Blues. I let them know we were stuck and probably wouldn’t make it there tonight. Hedi said she had a friend who might be able to help us get the scoots to the hotel.
With this glimmer of hope we set about getting the parts to fix the scooter. Bos decided it would be easiest to get a new engine shipped out. After a quick call we had sourced an LML engine minus flywheel, rear hub and exhaust to keep the shipping weight down.
Hedi called to let us know that Jörn had arrived home from work and would use his pickup to do the 200 mile round trip. They arrived at 8.30pm and soon both scoots were loaded onto the back of the truck and we were off arriving at their hotel at midnight. They had to be up for work at 5am and must have been absolutely shattered, but they still helped us get the scoots off the truck and into Jörg’s garage.
The engine arrived and was fitted with only a small ‘technical adjustment’ to the carb housing. Running in consisted of trips up and down the Silvretta, Reschen, Arlberg and Stelvio Passes.
