I’ve ridden in many countries in my time, from the splendour of Switzerland to the beauty of Italy and the vibrance of Tel Aviv. I’ve also had many memorable rides, this one was literally on our doorstep but every bit as dramatic as those foreign trips. Welcome to Scotland.
A circular 220-mile route from the banks of Loch Lomond on board the (at the time) new Suzuki Burgman 650. A group of fellow journalists on a ride out for a press launch, a damp day but clear enough to see the true wonder of Scotland – the Highlands awaited us. Near perfect riding roads with scenery every bit as dramatic as the Alps. A full day of challenging roads, fringed by inky-black lochs, wide expanses of nothingness, snow topped mountains and quaint Scottish hamlets. Nothing but the vastness of the open countryside and the sound of a dozen or so large capacity scooters having a blast. Riders in their element, loving life, enjoying the freedom only found on two wheels. Technology and stresses instantly dissolve when you put a helmet on. Riding a maxi-scooter in its natural habitat is when you realise just how impressive and capable these overgrown scooters really are. They glide around bends, have the power to have fun and are extremely comfortable. There’s no other two-wheeled machine I’d rather tour on than a scooter. This day was a murky looking one, wet in places and cold in others but this was scooter riding nirvana, a day out to remember. Give Scotland a try…
