A weekend in a field with mates and scooters, perfect. A weekend in a field with mates and scooters, perfect.

Who: Jonn Glover

What: Oddballs Scooter Rally

Where: Abingdon Rugby Club, Oxfordshire

When: 8th-10th April 2016

Why: Raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust

Thanks to Jonn Glover for sending in his photos and words from the Oddballs Scooter Club charity weekender in Oxfordshire where a total of £5400 was raised for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Live bands, including punk ska band W.A.M, Eyecon, The Fliks and The Corsairs entertained rally-goers between the DJ sets. An AJS Modena scooter was raffled off and custom scooters battled it out for one of the 17 trophies on offer, including the very special Ron Morgan memorial trophy being presented by his wife Carol. Ron sadly lost his fight against cancer. That particular trophy went to Richard with ‘Psychosocial Club.’ Best of show went to Trevor Roffey with Bones. Being a co-founder of the Lambretta Chopper Owners Club, I eagerly accepted the trophy for best club. The L.C.O.C were awarded a few others including Best Ridden Lambretta and Best ‘Other’. Many congratulations to all the other custom show winners.

Aside from having a good time, the weekend was all about raising funds. All the bands and entertainers provided their services free of charge, even all profits from food sales over the weekend were donated to the cause and it helped to raise £1000 more than the previous year. For me it was an entertaining weekend, meeting up with friends and making new ones.

I think my son, Leyton deserves a mention though, he rode to his first rally on his Lambretta Chopper, a scooter built as a team effort between father and son. He was over the moon that he made it there and back without incident. I was pretty stoked myself…
