Our occasional video correspondent from Manchester – Paul ‘Woodsy’ Wood of Two Stroke Films – has finally put the finishing touches to his epic Euro riding video. The video chronicles his group’s journey to Euro-Lambretta in Italy and we have an exclusive first screening here on SLUK.
The end result is a movie depicting joyous fun-filled riding through gorgeous scenery, which explains why scooterists do what we do. The camaraderie of undertaking epic rides on unsuitable machinery forms a bond between friends that runs deep.

VIDEO: One Smoking Barrel
Naturally, Woodsy only shows you the best bits. There’s plenty more to this tale, but here are a few highlights in Paul’s words:
The highlights
- 12 riders set off from Manchester.
- One didn’t make it five miles. Vespa, wrong fuelling issue.
- Two seized their engines before ferry. Both went home, changed engines, got the Euro-tunnel, tried to catch up, seized-up and went home.
- We met up with the Young Guns SC. They left us on day two as they wanted to get some miles done. They later seized and blew up on the motorway but were saved by Scottish scooterists. Was our group the cursed?
The drama carries on into the mountains with half of the group cooking their brakes with ‘spirited riding’ on the way down and Woodsy’s front tyre delaminating.
“We only spotted it as I was checking wheel nuts, as someone hadn’t as we had to change their hub for my spare one!”
Manchester Terror Attack
All this happened against a background of a crazy world.
“We were all affected by the attack in Manchester the week we left. Some of the riders had friends whose kids were seriously injured. We all carried stickers, made by Neil Johnston’s brother, of the Manchester bee on our scooters. Then the London stabbing attack happened while we were away…”
Homecoming
Naturally, you can’t have an epic journey in one direction only for it to go smoothly on the way home.
One of the riders (who shall remain nameless), left his passport in his bag that he gave to the van lads from Manchester to take back. He only discovered this error two days later. He made it to Zeebrugge for the booked crossing to Hull, only to be sent to Calais. He then had to ride home to Manchester via Dover in a monsoon. Credit to Steve Bell for being his wing-man and riding back with him.
Only five of the original 12 that set out rode back to Manchester. That’s the sort of epic journey you expect when you only have one smoking barrel…
