You know time is marching on when one of the ‘new’ breed of autos, largely credited as kickstarting the 1990s scooter boom reaches its 20th birthday. Like time, the Speedfight hasn’t stood still though, it’s been updated along the way and is on to it’s fourth incarnation.
To celebrate its 20th Birthday, Peugeot have released a special ’20 Edition’ of their iconic 50cc sports scooter.
The Speedfight may have evolved but it still retains its aggressive good looks, with twin parabolic headlights giving a sharp and instantly recognisable front profile. The special edition also gets a black double-stitched sport seat with removable pillion cowl, snakebite sports exhaust system and aluminium footboards, to complement its red-and-white colour scheme.
The 20 Edition also features new instruments, with a handy trip computer. Styling has been further enhanced by using lightweight mirror stems, LED turn indicators and rear lighting and an aviation style fuel cap. The dashboard has both USB and 12V sockets and is ready to take a RAM® X-Grip® smartphone holder. There’s also an undereseat bay, claimed to be large enough to store a full-face helmet.
Tuning potential?
An air-cooled two-stroke engine, fed by a Dell’Orto carburettor means the 20 Edition is going to be more fun than a comparable four-stroke scooter and easier to de-restrict or tune. Important things to consider when buying a 50cc scooter. A fairly simple de-restriction will give you an extra useful 10mph (if your age and licence permits).
Stopping power comes from a powerful Shuricane front disc with four-piston radial calliper. Whilst 32mm upside down front forks, 13-inch alloy wheels and a fuel tank located under the footboard for a lower centre of gravity, give improved stability and sharper handling.
The Speedfight 20 Edition is priced at £2199, including a two-year unlimited mileage parts and labour warranty.

Can I ride a 50cc?
Like all restricted 50cc scooters, the Speedfight 20 Edition can be ridden on an AM licence, making it accessible to riders aged 16 or over. AM category scooters can also be ridden by anyone who passed their car driving test before 1st February 2001, without the need to take any extra tests.
