You can tell from the weight, the surface finish and the smooth movement of the bolt that it’s not made of ‘fromage’ like many of the tools you get from India via eBay. But that’s not what’s special about it.
The chief problem of other extractors is that the accuracy of machining is poor so that the fitting into the flywheel thread is loose and wobbly. It’s surprisingly common for the threads to strip out of a flywheel or rip off the extractor if the flywheel is on really tight. We experienced that recently with Iggy’s Vespa PX flywheel: the threads simply pulled off the poorly-made flywheel puller. On the Spitfire Tools puller the threads are a much better fit; which is particularly useful where the actual flywheels have baggy threads (early Varitronic for instance).
This leads to the other innovation of this tool; which is a pair of slots in the threads which act as a thread tap, cutting through any dirt or slight damage to clean the flywheel thread. This self-cleaning action makes it much easier to screw the tool to full depth.
The only downside is that the Spitfire Tools puller from Scooter Surgery costs a lot more than a cheap one. However, if you only ever need one in your life and it’s more likely to work when you need it, then isn’t that extra money on a quality tool money well spent?
