Approx 70 or so motorcycles of all shapes, sizes and ages were entered into the Oliver’s Mount Race Circuit Hillclimb on Sunday 8th October. Vintage bikes, classic bikes, modern sports bikes and a few supermoto/motocross bikes thrown in for good measure make for a good spectacle!

 

But those of us with good taste really turned up to cheer on the four Lambretta riders competing. They were all flying the flag and helping to promote the ‘Scooters on the Mount’ side of the hillclimb events.

 

The competitors race up part of Scarborough’s legendary Oliver’s Mount road race circuit. It is an anticlockwise track, which is very rare in racing. The bit the hillclimb sprint uses, starts in the area normally used for the pits and finishes at the top of the main hill – the highest point on the track.

 

The riders go up one at a time with a 30 second or so delay, which makes for constant flowing action. The bikes go in category order – classic, then modern and in different capacity limits too.

This Scomadi-loving eccentric seems to be taking YouTube by storm with his wacky spoof videos, many of which are based around the ‘modern classic’ scooter. His YouTube channel ‘Jazzswingdance’ has had well over a million views already, which is quite disturbing.

 

Scomadi Volare (above) is the latest offering, sung in a crooner style, it contains the following rather catchy lyrics: 

 

I want a scooter that doesn’t break down all the time.
Don’t mind if its plastic and even bright orange is fine.
Just need a scooter that looks like it oozes real style.
Just need a scooter that goes fast when racing a mile.

The ‘artiste’ behind the song (and others of a similar vein) is also responsible for a new phenomenon, a fusion of 20s dance and exercise called, Charleston Ercise. His cult is already picking up fans around the world, including London-based scooter rider, Tony Higgs. Tony can’t get out of the house without doing a quick hand-jive to the modern take on old 1960s classic, the LambreTwist. Tony told us;

 

“This crooner is way cooler than my Lambretta, I can’t get enough of his music.”

 

Scomadi Twist

 

At ScooterLab, we first became aware of the Scomadi Twist (above) almost a year ago, but decided to leave it where we found it.

 

Sadly after receiving repeated requests from desperate London Lambretta Club member, Tony, we decided we’d use our army of scooter fans to try and track down our mystery crooner.
