As scooter tuning gets more radical and our small-wheeled machines get ever quicker, we need performance tyres we can trust. After all, that small contact patch is all that keeps us upright in wet, or hard riding conditions.

Highest speed rating

We also need tyres with a much higher speed rating than we used to. It looks like the new BGM Classic Pro and Sport tyres from Scooter Center should be able to cope with the biggest bragger down the pub. The Sport has an impressive 112mph rating – the highest of any 3.50 x 10 and the Classic comes with a 93 mph rating. They’re also 100% made in Germany.

Classic or Sport?

The BGM tyres are available now and come in a Classic tread pattern for those of you who prefer their scooters to look more original. In fact, self-confessed scooter nut, Philipp from Scooter Center told us the Classic tyres “Are designed as a homage to the Michelin ACS tyres, which, in my opinion, were the most beautiful looking tyres fitted originally to the Lambretta and Vespa”. They may look classic but they are also rated to an impressive 93mph (150 km/h). The Classic Pro cost £32.85.

The Sport – arrival to be announced soon, comes with an (as you’d expect) sportier tread pattern and is rated to 112mph (180km/h) so that should be more than enough for all the Casa SSR/SST265, BFA305 or bike engined conversions out there. They cost £33.71 each and can be pre-ordered now.

Made in Germany

The tyres are made for BGM by a well known German tyre manufacturer who laminate tyres by hand, rather than using a one-piece mould (we’ll leave you to guess which German tyre manufacturer it is).

They’re constructed using the latest innovations in tyre material, design and construction, using a high silica compound to ensure excellent grip, wet or dry. The result is a stable carcass that is said to give confidence whilst cornering and perfect stability at high speed (although we’ve not tried a set yet).

Features

  • Approval up to 112 mph (Sport) and up to 93 mph (Classic)
  • Ideal for powerful engines
  • Additional ‘REINFORCED’ marking
  • Extremely strong carcass for perfect directional stability and excellent line stability on fast cornering
  • V-shaped instead of U-shaped. The tyre tilts better into corners and offers more contact during lean
  • Specially formulated Silica compound for excellent grip in dry and wet conditions
  • 100% made in Germany
  • Contact: Scooter Center
