Beef up your Rally 180
Hot on the heals of the recently released RR / VTR 215cc kits for the Vespa P200, Pinasco have released an upgrade option for the Vespa Rally 180.
To be honest, you’re probably a little limited for upgrade options on the late sixties to early seventies forerunner to the legendary Rally 200. So a pretty much plug and play higher capacity kit for this model has to be welcomed. That. combined with the usual high quality of the Pinasco kit range means that if you want more from your 180, this kit is a good way to go.
The kit comprises of a nicasil lined alloy barrel which looks as though it provides either master or slave functionality. Master is essentially, traditional crankcase induction and slave allows cylinder induction via a reed valve. If you’re interested in “reed induction” then your local Pinasco stockists (VE-UK distribute in the UK) should be able to offer guidance and an idea of the additional parts needed to achieve this. With Master induction you just use the cylinder blanking plate and gasket, as provided.
The guys at Pinasco have confirmed that this barrel will fit any existing Rally 180 casing without the need for modifications. That said, if you’re upgrading to this kit it may be wise to consider upgrading your crank, ignition and clutch too. You’ll also have to factor in some jetting and carburtettor adjustments, all pretty standard considerations when buying a bigger engine kit.
Exhaust
Pinasco have confirmed that if you want to retain your orignal Rally Exhaust then some modification will be required. Essentially, the kit has been developed around a P200 exhaust configuration so it may be a better option to get yourself a suitable pipe at the same time and leave the original exhaust on the shelf with your 180 kit.
